On Open Source with Max Tegmark

October 20, 2017

I was on WBUR’s Open Source with Christopher Lydon – a show I regularly listened to when I lived in Somerville – last night discussing Max Tegmark’s new book, Life 3.0. Other guests were Erik Brynjolfsson and Yarden Katz. Here’s the episode:

I read the book and wondered what the Mathbabe thought about it.
Fortunately I listened to the podcast and was greatly relieved that I got your take on it.

I was very involved in an AI project in the early 80’s and thought AI was oversold and under delivered then.
After reading Max’s book, I realized not much has changed in hyping AI.

I was so glad that you were on the podcast – and you pointed out that big data and the use of AI are in the hands of money-makers and the so called justice system who are biased against our basic social and economic interests.

    Thanks.
