We are the 47%

September 19, 2012

A wee moment of silence for the Romney campaign: you gave your life for the sake of an honest national conversation about class warfare. Do not think you died in vain.

47%-gate won’t ruin Romney’s campaign, anymore than the “clinging-to-their-guns-and-religion” statement by Obama ruined his campaign. In the end, he’s right, the vast majority of that 47% have no plans to vote for Romney anyway.

      Not any more anyway.

I think it’d be more appropriate to say the 47% would vote for him anyway. Looking at the distribution of the least tax paying folks they’re all in solidly GOP states.

I don’t think that comparing the “guns and religion” Obama quote to Romney’s is fair. The intent of each statement is entirely different – Obama’s was around understanding a set of the population’s frustrations and trying to figure out to to address them, and Romney is all about leaving everyone who isn’t exactly like him out in the cold. That is to say – I don’t think Obama lost anything with that statement – the people who found it offensive were never going to vote for him anyway. But the more ruthless Romney statement I think will have lost him some undecideds and the so-called (by their own party) RINOs.

The last layer of gloves are now off on the Class Warfare discussion, and bare-knuckle honesty should (might?) now commence. The Makers/Takers polarity seems more stark than I’ve ever seen, and Obama has an opportunity to define Makers = Workers (not solely Capitalists) and Takers = Banksters (not the 47%). If he has the FDR political courage to explicitly “welcome the hatred” of the Corrupt Elites, that is.

I think the rumors of the Romney campaign’s demise are a little premature (according to fivethirtyeight.com), but we can always hope.

One significant development–Republicans in tight Senate and House races have started distancing themselves from Romney.

So, Romney said there is no point in campaigning to a population of voters whose rational self interest is tied to a check from the government. The only thing interesting about this is whether the 47% figure is correct and, judging by the polls, it is.

Money’s is in the bank, the check is in the mail, the 47% won’t be joining the Ponzi schemes ,trust funds, tax breaks, Read Howard Hugh’s story, anybody that ran one of his company that paid tax was fired.Romney gonna figure out a way for the 47% to pay tax, you can take that to the Bank. Most U.S.A. CEO would rather pay a China Communist, rather than their U.S.A. fair tax. Shrew, clever, brilliant, clever, smart Business men. They take advantage of tax laws written especially for them. You want stop illegal drugs tax it, you want stop illegal immigration, tax it, surprise, surprise, guess who will show up to stop the tax. Never underestimate the human mind, educated or other wise to steal your money.

The 47% include the following: Stay at home moms, who mostly wont pay tax (good republicans mostly); retirees, who followed the rules, paid their way, made their contributions and who, amazingly, now expect society to honour the contract – some of those retirees will have been of the ‘greatest generation’ who fought for our freedom; some will be serving soldiers who don’t pay income tax while risking their lives for us; many will be the hard working poor on minimum wage trying to make ends meet in hellish circumstances.

Many of these will actually be republican supporters, maybe they will wonder why after that diatribe.

Romney aspires to be president of the United States of America, meaning all the people, not just his rich cronies, many of whom got rich not on the basis of their entrepreneurship and hard work, but on their ability to exploit government handouts.

Many of the better off tax payers who Romney seems to think are his, are actually not democrats because they have a conscience as well as a desire to succeed.

If voters actually pad attention to what he said, and think about what it means, many republicans might well not bother to vote.
