Bloomberg post: When Algorithms Come for Our Children

January 27, 2017

Hey all, my second column came out today on Bloomberg:

When Algorithms Come  for Our Children

Also, I reviewed a book called Data for the People by Andreas Weigend for Science Magazine. My review has a long name:

A tech insider’s data dreams will resonate with the like-minded but neglect issues of access and equality

Wow. It sounds Weigend saw the most recent season of Black Mirror, and decided that he _wants_ to live in the world portrayed in the episode “Nosedive”.

    ^ Agreed

Thank you for calling out the absurdities spewed in his book. Weigend’s ideas are scary, and it’s crazy to see how many people like him drunk on the data KoolAid. An algorithm to predict organ donation preference, really? How incredibly misguided.

I do feel like reading this book for the sake of being informed…going to try to find a copy at the local library here in SF.
