Bloomberg column: The FEMA model is a WMD

Hi all,

On my walk to work I realized that the new FEMA model – which was used to strong-arm the Arizona governor into opening early – is a WMD, i.e. important, secret, and destructive:

Decisions on reopening should involve public data and debate.

I hope you are making lots of money from MR. B.
Might it be possible to post your pay walled stuff here some time period later?
Or does MR. B own your words?
    Thanks.

I don’t think FEMA has any sort of model in the sense you’re talking about. They’re probably going by the “We need to get back to making money” kind of pressure. Or maybe Q2 isn’t going to look good and we need something for Q3. There might also be a fear that Congress will pass some legislation that will allow more people to weather the storm (so to speak) and they’ll be reluctant to go back to work. But if there was a model, your comments are spot on.

I wish I knew the “modeling” that went into the Six Foot suggestion. Maybe that’s a distance that allows for a 0.1% risk. Maybe I’d like .01%. Or .001%.
