HCSSiM 2012

I was a senior staff member at the HCSSiM program in 2012, where I taught a workshop for the first half of the program, so 17 lectures, with my awesome junior staff Elizabeth Campolongo, Maxwell Levit, and Josh Vekhter.

I also gave a prime time theorem talk on the game of Nim.

I also wrote a bit about the tradition of Yellow Pig Day and the songs we sing every July 17th.

I also wrote a post about what is a proof and why mathematicians are trained to admit they’re wrong.

Here are the notes from the workshop:

Hi Cathy! Are you going to teach the 2013 camp?

I just dropped my daughter off at HCSSiM 2013, with high hopes for all she’ll learn, and how much fun she’ll have! She has never found a group of kids that she felt were “like her”, and I hope she will there. I wanted to thank you, as I learned of the program through your blog. (I heard of your blog at SPARK at MIT.) Sorry you won’t be there this year.

Hi!! I just found about this post from the yellowpigs.net website! It’s really nice seeing how different workshops can lead in different directions and approaches – that was one of my favorite characteristics of the summer studies 🙂
I hope to return to Hampshire in the future, maybe as a Jstaff(?) Are you planning on returning in 2023 YP Day (for the 51st summer?)
