WMD articles and interviews
September 22, 2016
I haven’t been posting too often, in part because I’ve been traveling a lot on book tour, and also because I’ve been writing for other things and interviewing quite a bit. Today I wanted to share some of that stuff.
- I wrote a Q&A for Jacobin called Welcome to the Black Box.
- I wrote a piece for Slate called How Big Data Transformed Applying to College.
- Times Higher Education chose my book as their reviewed Book of the Week and had a nice spread about it.
There may be more, and I’ll post them when I remember them.
Also, great news! My book is a best-seller in Canada! Those Canadians are just the smartest.

By the time you finish this tour you’ll probably have enough material for the sequel book, including whole new chapters on Wells Fargo & Mylan Labs!
Keep up the great work…

Great stuff and well-earned acclaim.
Somewhat ironic, though, the that Times article in under a banner promoting the World University Rankings.
Johan noted this in Counterpunch
“It’s under this spectrum that a book such as Weapons of Math Destruction, by Cathy O’Neil (Crown Publishing) becomes as essential as the air that we breathe.”

Thanks for letting us know, I ran a few through Twitter as well. It is so scary to watch how our “Dupes of Hazard” society is functioning with bad math/algorithms and flawed data.

Dear Cathy, your book and catchphrase “weapons of math destruction” has made into official government/political speak discourse in Australia. It has been cited in a speech (sorry do not have the exact quote or citation).
Keep up the good work.
