Should Aunt Pythia go video?

What, what? My friend Becky Jaffe sent me this video of Tig Notaro giving advice:
I thought it was moving and intimate, just like an advice column should be. What do you think, should Aunt Pythia go video?
Pros for Aunt Pythia going video:
- the connection with the audience,
- doesn’t have to wear anything below the waist,
- can show nutella crepes in real life, no more boring pics.
Cons for Aunt Pythia going video:
- maybe too much intimacy (TMI),
- has to wear a shirt,
- sometimes fakes it and bakes Pillsbury cinnamon rolls.
Please make a suggestion below if you are an Aunt Pythia fan. If you hate Aunt Pythia then I don’t really care what you think.

I prefer text, because I can easily read at work, instead of doing work. A video is much less subtle.

I vote for text or at least subtitles/transcript. It’s faster and easier for us non-native speakers.

I also prefer text. But maybe select one letter each week to read and answer? You are as funny in spoken word as in text, so…
Come to think of it, maybe some of the Occupy work would be better in video – get people to watch who don’t have patience to read.

I’ll be bad and say I sorta hate video. Video is wise than either blogging or podcasts. I listen to audio while walking the dog or cleaning, but that doesn’t lead to having my phone out. And I can read (and skim) blogs when I have time, without bothering people.
Also,I can’t skim videos looking for things that interest me.

I really dislike videos. Is the worst of both worlds. I listen to audio while doing things like walking the dog or cleaning. I don’t want to be watching my phone during these times.
I can do blogs without bothering other people. And blogs take a lot less data to download. Also I can skim through to read the articles I’m interested in. You can’t skim videos.
I love blogs, and works prefer written words.

Text; video requires me to stop and do that alone. Text can be done with stuff going on in the background, and by pieces as large as my current available time allows. Videos make it more difficult. I’ll start a long text even if I have only a little time, knowing I can easily go back to it later; but I need a chunk of available time that exceeds the video length before I will start the video.

I’m up to date on the blogs I follow, but procrastinate on watching videos. If I can’t make the time to catch up on John Oliver, I don’t want my blogs to go video.

I’m also anti-video in a big way and prefer text. I feel like that preference highlights the intelligence and wisdom of your readership.

Of every 100 videos I see that I “would like to” watch I watch maybe two. Me watching a video is disruptive to those around me and/or it isolates me from them. Reading does neither of these things.

With consensus: please keep text.
But if you try video and post a transcript and perhaps a cleaned-up version as a blog entry, then you’ll get great feedback about how video people feel about the video, more than the selection bias here, from folks who were afraid you might abandon text, and chose to comment for that reason, rather than just go on in their reader in vague hopes that you might post a video one day, and wouldn’t mind at all if you did.

It’s definitely selection bias. I usually just click through to your other content and don’t read aunty python. But when you popped the question and it showed up in my RSS feed, I thought hmmm interesting. Why not throw a few against the wall and see if it sticks? Yu can always mix it up and see how it goes.

Yay that you went for text. Everything seems to be going video, and I don’t like it … I can’t quickly scan a video and skip to the interesting bit; I can’t watch a video in privacy, those nearby can see/hear all that crap; and video is slow, still waiting to buffer when I’ve already skimmed the text. No, I might be old-fashioned but I’m glad you chose text … now speaking of Old-Fashioneds.

Great idea but doesn’t help me. I like to read at my own pace, skipping, skimming, reading, and re-reading, depending on the topic. Videos are too slow and don’t allow me to adjust the pacing of my interaction.
