HSBC Valentine’s Day action (#OWS)

February 5, 2013

We in the Alt Banking group are planning a protest against “too big to jail” bank HSBC for Valentine’s Day. As soon as we started the planning we realized they are utterly ripe for satire with their ridiculous airport posters like this one:

Here’s a new poster for them, courtesy of Nick from our group (and crossposted from the Alt Banking blog):

Readers, can you help us come up with posters and slogans for the event? Bonus if it has to do with a Valentine’s Day theme, along the lines of “You broke my heart, HSBC!” or if it riffs on their slogan, “The World’s Local Bank”. We will be making posters and flyers with this stuff next Sunday afternoon, if you’re going to be up near Columbia you should join us.

Thanks for your help! If you tweet this, don’t forget to use the hashtag #HSBC as a gift to those guys.

update: Public Citizen in Maryland is attempting to revoke HSBC’s bank charter.

“The World’s Local Banksters” seems like a starting point…

Don’t currently have photoshop on this machine and I have never been able to get the GIMP to do what I want, so I can’t make this, but…..

A picture of some drug cartel getting busted would replace the rug. Then just say something like “Drug cartels”, “Terrorists”, “Assets”. Then their tag line of “The more you look at the world, the more you recognise how people value things differently” is still great. Then take Bill A.’s suggestion of “The World’s Local Banksters”. Add a bit.ly link to some news article. Call it a day.

Or how about ‘The World’s Loco Bankers”

with a graphic of Yosemite Sam, and KW’s labels on his guns – keep it simple for easy reading

For Valentine’s themed, you could go with three candy hearts and a “sugar is bad for you” theme: DECAY/CRASH/UNHEALTHY CYCLE and the HBC: threatening the health of the global market.

I would normally be all over doing this myself, but it turns out I have no time to do necessary things (never mind extra curriculars) right now. 😦

Also, my “s” key sticks, so please insert necessary letters — as in, HSBC.
