What ? No Justin Bieber or Jonas Brothers ? You’re doing a good job as a parent IMHO. Is he/she also into classical music as well ? Since you play the piano, I imagine you got them into that pretty early, which is good because I’ve read it increases IQ.
Why do people think classical music raises people’s IQs? Like that company that tried to convince parents to make babies watch videos with Mozart to make them smarter. Please, what a con!
No I was referring to learning to PLAY classical music, not merely listening. The myth that listening to Mozart increases a child’s IQ was a misrepresentation of a 1993 study published in Nature which showed only temporary increases in spatial IQ. But several studies have confirmed that LEARNING to play a musical instrument from an early age does indeed show statistically significant increases in IQ, as compared with matched controls.
IQ is made up, but making music is joyful. I think every kid deserves the opportunity to do it, albeit without the oppressive parental expectation that it will somehow make him “smarter.”
